Skywalk Upgrade: Major Railway-to-Metro Link Planned for Ernakulam

Train passengers in Ernakulam are slated to get smoother transfers between train and Metro services as Indian Railways plans elevated skywalks at Tripunithura, Ernakulam Junction, and Ernakulam Town stations. According to Senior DCM Nithin Norbert, the proposal is shortlisted for Railway Board approval, with a Detailed Project Report currently under preparation.

Discussed during the recent Divisional Railway Users’ Consultative Committee (DRUCC) meeting, the skywalks and station updates aim to improve safety and accessibility for commuters. Alongside the footbridges, Railways confirmed that platform extension work at Ernakulam Junction is underway to accommodate 24-coach trains, while passenger associations continue to advocate for extra lifts, escalators, a covered entrance walkway, and new regional train routes.
